Is an Electronic Signature Legally Valid?

In the United States, the federal ESIGN Act (2000) and the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA), adopted by most states, generally give electronic signatures the same legal effect as handwritten ones for most business and personal documents. Some documents, such as wills and certain court or government notices, have special rules. If you're unsure, check with the person requesting your signature. This is general information, not legal advice.

Good to know: this tool adds a visual signature, like signing a printout. It doesn't add a certificate-based digital signature. If a recipient specifically requires a certified digital signature, they'll usually send you a link from their signing service.
